The 32-year-old joined Arsenal from Chelsea in January 2023 on an 18-month deal, with the option to extend it, for £12 million ($15m) and since then he has made 51 appearances for Mikel Arteta's men. With his contract set to expire this summer, the Italian international has now put pen to paper on a 'short-term deal'; which is understood to be a 12-month contract, with the possibility of staying another year. Now, he has explained his reasoning for remaining at the Gunners, despite being linked with Serie A sides.

When asked about his hopes for his future with Arsenal, he said: “Win as much as I can and enjoy the moment, because that’s really important for me. Because if you are somewhere where you are not enjoying it, or you are not happy, then it’s difficult. So, moving forward [the goal] is trying to be here, be happy and achieve as much as we can.
“I’m really happy to stay, because it’s a privilege to be a part of this family. My family is happy, we’re really well settled and I feel that I have more to do. I felt part of something big straight away. The way I felt involved and how I felt really in a good place. It’s not always like that, so when you feel something like this, it’s something important.”
